Lewotobi Volcano Eruption: Hundreds of Food Aid Packages from PBV Distributed to 8 Villages in East Flores

ASARRelease, East Flores—Survivors of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano eruption in East Flores remain in evacuation shelters, as many residents are still unable to return to their homes due to severe damage to their settlements. Currently, Mount Lewotobi is still at Level III alert status.

Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV), in collaboration with ASAR Humanity, provided support to displaced communities affected by the Mount Lewotobi eruption. Approximately 280 food aid packages were distributed to 1,400 survivors on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

The aid distribution was carried out by KSATRIA ASAR Humanity volunteers based in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. According to reports, the food packages were delivered to eight villages with the help of local volunteers who are familiar with the area. The distribution took place in two phases: 90 packages on the first day and 190 packages on the second day.

The villages that received the food packages include Konga, Pululera, Nobo, Klantalo, Boru, Waidang, Nurabelen, and the Demon Pagong District.

The food packages are expected to meet the daily needs of displaced residents, from children to the elderly, while they remain in evacuation shelters.

As of Friday morning, January 10, 2025, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki continues to erupt, producing loud rumbling sounds and ash columns reaching up to 900 meters above the summit and the community still requires basic assistance in the evacuation shelters.
